Here’s a great way for children to get active these September school holidays and make a big difference in their community. The Meli Kids’ Run is being held this Sunday 17 September as part of the Surf Coast Century weekend.
Meli is the official charity partner for the Surf Coast Century – a spectacular 50km and 100km ultra marathon race along the Great Ocean Road on Saturday 16 September. Those who have registered to run the Surf Coast Century are invited to make every step count and fundraise for Meli.
The kids’ run starts at 9am near the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club and finishes at the same place, with children completing a lap of the Anglesea River. Parents are also able to run with their children.
The event is open to all children, whether their parents are running the Surf Coast Century or not. There will be food and coffee available on site as well as spot prizes and activities, making it a fun morning for the whole family.
Last year more than 200 children participated in the run and organisers Rapid Ascent are hoping for an even bigger turnout in 2023.
“We love seeing kids get active and involved at our events and can’t wait to welcome another group of enthusiastic children this year as they run, walk, jog, hop or skip along the course,” said Rapid Ascent’s general manager Sam Maffett.
Meli CEO Grant Boyd is encouraging families to get involved, have fun, and support an important cause.
“Participating in the Meli Kids’ Run or running the Surf Coast Century and fundraising for Meli are great ways to support the Foster a Future Appeal in September. All funds raised will help Meli recruit and support foster carers, making a big difference in the lives of children in our region.”
Entry in the Meli Kids’ Run is just $10 and every child receives a race plate, ribbon, badge and fruit at the finish. Parents can register their children online at Meli Kids Run or sign up on the day.
