How can I become a Foster Carer?

Many everyday people across Geelong and the Barwon region are opening their hearts and their homes to children and young people who cannot live with their families. But many more foster carers are needed.

Anyone who can offer a child or young person with a safe and caring environment can apply to become a foster carer. Carers of all walks of life, backgrounds, ages and experiences are needed. Foster Carers can be individuals, couples and families from all backgrounds, with or without children, who are working or not working. Carers are ordinary people who do extraordinary things.

Meli also holds regular Foster Care information sessions which provide an opportunity to gain information and ask as many questions as you like. For more information contact the Meli Foster Care team on 03 5226 8900.

Foster A Future – Foster Care Program

Meli believes every child in the Barwon Region has the right to a stable and loving home.

In Australia an increasing number of children and young people are requiring Foster Care but, despite the increased need, there is a critical shortage of Foster Carers to provide the care they need, including in the Barwon area.

You can help by financially supporting our annual Foster A Future appeal. Funds raised through the appeal support Meli’s current Foster Care families and train prospective carers. In return your donation will help provide safe, more stable and longer term foster care homes for children and young people in the Barwon Region.
