A decade of changing young lives has earned statewide recognition, with The Geelong Project announced as a finalist in the Victorian Protecting Children Awards.
The innovative program, run by Meli, is one of four finalists in the Keeping At Risk Young People Safe Award category, which recognises outstanding efforts to support vulnerable young people across Victoria.
The announcement comes in a milestone year for The Geelong Project, which recently celebrated 10 years of supporting young people and families across the local region.
For more than a decade, The Geelong Project has used a proactive early intervention approach to identify and support young people at risk of disengaging from education, experiencing homelessness or entering the justice system.
Today, the program works with students across seven secondary schools in the region, helping them remain engaged in school and connected to their families and communities.
The annual Victorian Protecting Children Awards celebrate excellence in supporting children, young people and families, and have been recognising outstanding contributions across the child and family services sector for the past 23 years.
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the MCG on Thursday 3 September.
