“If Not You, Then Who?”: Gemma’s Inspiring Foster Care Journey

Geelong local Gemma didn’t take the decision to become a foster carer lightly.

At first, she admits she was hesitant. But after connecting with Meli, everything began to change.

In a recent interview on Bay FM, Gemma shared how with Meli’s help, she navigated the application and training process, prepared her home and family, and gained the confidence she needed to take that first step.

Now a dedicated foster carer, Gemma says the experience has been deeply rewarding.

She reflected on her first placement, sharing a memory that still resonates with her.

“It was the best experience ever,” she said. “He just fitted in so lovely into our family. We were able to give him a little bit of a camping trip over Easter and just spoil him and have some really good times with him.”

To anyone considering becoming a foster carer, Gemma offers this encouragement: “Just do it. Take that first step. No part of the process is a lock-in. You really should just try it out and see how it goes for you. I always say: If not you, then who?”
