Meli’s annual Foster a Future Breakfast on Thursday 5 September was a wonderful opportunity to come together to celebrate the incredible efforts of our Foster Carers and highlight the urgent need for more carers in our community.
The breakfast was a very welcome reminder of the important work we do at Meli, raising $61,000 to kick off the Foster a Future appeal.
Keynote speaker, beloved media personality Kate Langbroek, shared an inspiring and heartfelt message about the importance of daring to do, not just dream. We were moved to tears one minute, then in stitches the next, as Langbroek’s trademark wit and warmth weaved through her motivational address.
MC Myf Warhurst returned for the second year, sharing her experiences as a foster carer and urging anyone thinking of becoming a carer to take the next step.
We showed powerful videos featuring our foster carers. The Hough family have welcomed more than 40 children and young people into their home over the past four years and talked about the positive impacts on their own young children, while Foster Carer Raelene and past care leaver Jesse demonstrated the incredible impact that a loving and stable home can have on a young person.
The annual Cheryl Flanagan Award was also a highlight. Long-term supporter of Meli’s Foster Care Program and this year’s Platinum Partner, Aviso Integral Insurance, presented the award to the carers of two of our deserving young people.
Thank you to all our partners, sponsors, donors, attendees – and of course the Meli Marketing and Foster Care teams – for such heart-warming and truly memorable event.
The Foster a Future Appeal runs throughout September and proceeds go towards the recruitment, training and retention of carers, as well as funding extra activities for the children and young people in care. Donate here.
