Meli is hosting a free screening of Paddington in Peru at Geelong’s Pivotonian Cinema next month to encourage younger mums and mums-to-be to make new connections.
The special parent-friendly screening is open to women aged 26 and under who are pregnant or have children under five years old.
The event is one of the ways Meli’s Connecting team helps younger Geelong mums come together, make new friends, and build their village and support networks early in their parenting journey.
Lindsay Shaw, Manager Family Support (Connecting Families) at Meli, said the event offers a fun and relaxed way to meet other local mums.
“At Meli, we know the importance of mums being able to connect with others who are facing the same joys and challenges of parenthood,” she said.
“From exchanging tips and tricks to having someone who understands the many ages and stages of young children, these connections are so valuable.
“Creating a village with other likeminded mums can help lighten the heavy load of parenting.”
Before the film, guests will hear a short introduction to Meli’s Connecting team, including the Bumps to Bubs facilitators who guide young mums and mums‑to‑be through the early stages of parenthood. Run during school terms, Bumps to Bubs offers a supportive space where young mothers can share experiences and build lasting friendships.
Each year, Meli’s Connecting team supports hundreds of families and operates from a range of community centres across the City of Greater Geelong, Golden Plains Shire, and the Surf Coast.
The free screening is on Wednesday 4 February at 1.00pm at The Pivotonian Cinema (Cnr Moorabool & Verner St, South Geelong). As a parent-friendly session, mums are welcome to feed, change nappies, or take a break at any time during the movie.
